Compact creates the file...but can Notes do without the Desktop8.ndk?

After going into the workspace and seeing the file is 0 bytes I tried clicking "compact". Notes then says in the proces bar :
"Performing consistency check on desktop8.ndk"
"Completed consitency check on Desktop8.ndk".

And Desktop8.ndk is created. Date stamp is the time of the consitency check. Is it supposed to be like this? I haven't seen this in earlier versions of Notes.
